Sabbath School
The study hour that opens every Sabbath, with classes for every age group and the same lesson studied by Adventists in every division of the world field.
Sabbath School at Portmore
Sabbath School is the first service of the Sabbath and begins at 9:15 a.m. The programme opens together in the sanctuary before the congregation separates into class divisions, and closes in time for Divine Worship at 11:00 a.m.
The adult classes study the Adult Bible Study Guide, published quarterly by the General Conference and followed by Adventist congregations worldwide, so a visitor from another church can join a class here and be on exactly the same passage they would have studied at home.
The children’s and youth divisions meet in their own rooms with material written for their age, taught by members of the congregation who prepare through the week.
What this department is for
That every member comes to Divine Worship having already opened the Word for themselves that morning.
That the class, not the pew, is where members are known well enough to be missed when absent.
That the mission offering and the mission report keep the world field in front of the congregation every week.
That every class is a place a first-time visitor can sit down and follow without embarrassment.
